10 Criminally Low IMDb Movie Ratings You Won’t Believe

8. Jackie Brown

IMDb Rating: 7.5

It was discussed in the overrated article that, following the disappointment of Jackie Brown (it wasn't a failure by critical or commercial measure, but its success was a faint comparison to his previous movies), Quentin Tarantino spent upwards of a decade trying to replicate his biggest hit, Pulp Fiction, producing visually interesting, but thematically less-rich films. Thankfully, his recent historical bent has seen him move in a stronger direction, once again confident to let a story stand on its own merits, suggesting a return to the late-nineties form isn't off the cards before his announced retirement.

You see, while Jackie Brown was a world away from Pulp Fiction, telling a (mostly) linear narrative with a tight set of supporting characters, it was far from a creative misstep. The director's unreplicable dialogue and homaging cinematography is still present and correct, and, in adapting someone else's work, he was restrained enough that he ended up making one of his best movies.

Not that IMDb would reflect that, with it scoring the lowest rating for the director filmography (aside from Death Proof, but nobody likes to remember Death Proof). Clearly the initial backlash that Tarantino took so much to heart affected the audience too.
