10 Criminally Underrated Monster Movies
3. Critters
Not actually a Gremlins rip off, despite what many lazy critics would have you believe, 1986's Critters was in production prior to the blockbuster success of The Burbs helmer Joe Dante’s Christmas classic.
Unfairly under-appreciated due to its superficial similarity to said aforementioned well-loved monster movie, this flick from Bill and Ted director Stephen Herek deserves more love from monster movie aficionados. Charting the invasion of a small US town by the eponymous monsters, the R-rated flick features more gore than Gremlins dared include, alien bounty hunters searching for its villains, and a more dark and anarchic sense of humour than most Gremlins imitators which followed.
Plus, its second sequel introduced the world to young Leo DiCaprio. What more could you want?
