With an indie star studded cast - Michael Cera, Anna Kendrick, Jason Bateman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, one of the non-Macaulay Culkins (just joking, Kieran, we love you) - and a truly superb director who knows as much about film as all of WhatCulture combined, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World was destined to be huge. And it was. But that doesn't mean it made money.

Having made visual magic out of an $85 million budget, with a punchy soundtrack, killer comedy performances and a good dose of magic from the comic source, Edgar Wright and the studio (quite rightly) expected a decent return, but Scott Pilgrim pulled in less than $50 million worldwide!

Poor marketing has taken the brunt of the blame for the film's commercial failure, as the studio and marketing teams did not entirely know where to pitch it, ultimately aiming it at younger viewers, when really it was made for teens, twenty-somethings, and anyone who had ever held a graphic novel or video game controller in their hands.
