10 Dark Theories About Family Movies That Actually Make Sense

5. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial: The Prequel To War Of The Worlds

We all remember E.T. as a cute and cuddly non-threatening alien who accidentally got left behind by his extra-terrestrial cohorts while on a mission to collect plant samples from Earth, but what if their motives for coming to our planet were far more nefarious?

You’ll remember that Steven Spielberg returned to the alien theme again in 2005 with his adaptation of H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds which featured a race of alien invaders with not so good intentions. Well, humour us for a moment and entertain this: what if E.T. was a prequel to Spielberg’s War of the Worlds and the purpose of E.T.’s mission was to make sure Earth was ripe for invasion?

Sure, the aliens and technology in each movie differ completely but who’s to say the WOTW aliens aren’t E.T.’s more advanced alien progeny or some marauding Martians that E.T. and friends have buddied up with to take over the universe?

Adding weight to the theory is the fact that Spielberg originally conceived E.T. as a horror movie about a family terrorised by bad guy aliens. Of course, if the theory is true it means that young Elliott from E.T. was actually complicit in the near total annihilation of Earth, the little sh*t.
