10 DC Characters That Deserve Animated Films

1. Aquaman

Aqua Though Aquaman has suffered a significant amount of ridicule since is appearance in 1941, but has become one of DC's most popular and iconic characters nonetheless. He's ranked as 53rd on IGN's list of greatest comic book heroes of all time and is well loved by those who look past his seemingly cheesy premise and recognize the noble and powerful figure he is. Aquaman has been subject to a number of relaunches since his debut, though the basic premise has remained the same. Born as Orin, the heir to the throne of Atlantis, Aquaman was raised by a human lighthouse operator named Tom Curry and given the name Arthur Curry. He is now the King of Atlantis, and protector of the world's oceans. In the New 52 relaunch, he also battles a negative public image, being viewed as a lesser metahuman with less impressive powers than the rest of the JLA. His abilities include super strength, durability, super speed, the ability to breathe underwater, and the ability to both walk on land (though he runs the risk of dehydration) and survive the ocean's deepest depths. He also has the power to communicate with ocean life telepathically, which is the most famous and most mocked of his powers. Fans have been clamoring for an Aquaman film for years, though DC seems hesitant to bring the character to the big screen due to the general public's negative image of him. It would also be incredibly difficult to film the underwater scenes required for such a movie, though with recent technological advantages, it's certainly not impossible. One way to easily avoid that hassle is to give him an animated film, which could test the waters (no pun intended) for the character and introduce a clear origin for him while showing audiences that he should be taken seriously. It was recently announced by DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns that one was in the works (after outcry from fans who realized Aquaman was being written out of the upcoming animated film, Justice League: War), so now we just have to sit back and hope it actually comes to fruition. And that's it! My list of 10 DC characters that deserve animated films. There are, of course, countless other characters that could have made the list and would work well in animation, so if I missed any you'd love to see, let me know in the comments below!
