10 DC Characters That Deserve Animated Films

9. John Stewart: Green Lantern

Johnstewart John Stewart first appeared in 1971, and was one of DC's first African American superheroes. He was created by Dennis O'Neil and Neal Adams as Hal Jordan's backup after Guy Gardner was seriously injured. He is an architect and veteran U.S. Marine, whose creations are given a solid, architectural quality and whose will often exceeds the limit of his ring. He appeared in the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated series, which took him out of obscurity and made him more recognizable with general audiences. There have been two standalone Green Lantern animated features, both of which focus on Hal Jordan, so giving John Stewart an adventure of his own is long overdue. Because he's been such an integral part of the JLA for years, and because of the fundamental differences in his character from Hal, a John Stewart film would be well deserved.
