10 DCEU Revelations From Zack Snyder

9. The Dead

There's a scene in Batman v. Superman where in the midst of stealthily following Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent sees a news broadcast about a terrible fire in Mexico City and rushes off to save the day. This scene takes place on the Day of the Dead, and so as Clark saves the last of the people trapped within the building, he lands and is surrounded by people with skeletons painted on their faces. They all reach out towards him, as he looks solemnly into the distance.

When a fan presented their own personal interpretation of the scene, Snyder reached out to confirm that they were in fact completely correct.

"No no that's right">

This interpretation stated that the skeletons were not only representative of the people of Earth reaching out for an uncertain savior in Superman, but that they were also representative of Clark's grief over the casualties from the end of Man of Steel.

"Clark being dragged down by the people who died during him and Zod's fight, symbolised by people dressed in skeletons..."

They are a visual metaphor for the citizens of Metropolis who died as a direct result of his actions, quite literally weighing down upon his shoulders.
