10 Dead Comic Book Movies That Need To Be Revived
6. Batman: Year One - Darren Aronofsky
Darren Aronofsky is an incredible director, his films capturing a genuinely bleak tone, the kind many films shoot for but which usually ends up feeling melodramatic and artificial. Since debuting with Pi in 1998 and following it up with the amazing Requiem For A Dream, the man hasn't directed a bad film. Even 2014's Noah is a deeply interesting (and deeply weird) film.
Which makes it all the more disappointing that his adaptation of the terrific Batman: Year One comic never came to be. According to Warner Brothers, Aronofsky's adaptation was too violent and realistic, which while sounding awesome to most comic book fans, sadly didn't fly from the studio's perspective.
Still, Aronofsky clearly has a hunger to do something superhero related - he was briefly attached to The Wolverine, too - so why not give him a crack at it? Especially since Batman's appearance in Dawn Of Justice was a bit naff (it's difficult to forget the whole "Martha" thing).
An Aronofsky version of Year One would be bleaker than any depiction of Batman we've seen on-screen. It could also be a refreshingly standalone story, not spinning off into its own universe. Leave that stuff to Ben Affleck.
