10 Deadliest Spells In The Harry Potter Universe

8. Confringo

What does it do? Causes the target to explode and burst into flames. Used by Michael Bay to film the Transformers series.

We all know that one person we'd like to explode, and Confringo provides a sufficient means to that end. But what makes this particular spell especially deadly is the fact that it could easily take out a whole group of people in one fell swoop, as well as an individual target.

So, do you know multiple people you'd like to explode? Knock yourself out. Confringo has been used with devastating effects many times, both on-screen and on the page - most notably in Deathly Hallows Part 1, wherein Hermione casts the spell in an attempt to escape from Nagini in the late Bathilda Bagshot's house, destroying Harry's wand in the process - and it works like a charm every single time.

Less successful were Lord Voldemort's efforts to attack Harry using Confringo, when the dark wizard discovers that the Boy Who Lived is still alive in the courtyard during the Battle of Hogwarts. But even though Voldy failed to kill Potter, the spell still caused several large, deadly explosions, and Harry was lucky to escape with his life.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
