10 Deleted Scenes That Explain Confusing Sci-Fi Movie Moments

6. Why Doesn't Ripley Care About Her Daughter's Death? (Aliens)

After the harrowing events of the first Alien movie, Ellen Ripley wakes up after almost sixty years of stasis in her escape pod. She begs her employers to do something about the Xenomorphs that killed her crew, setting in motion this sequel's events.

After such a long time away from reality, you'd expect Ripley to have a lot of questions. Perhaps she wants to know what happened to her family. That makes sense, right?

Instead, she adopts an almost robotic attitude to taking down the Xenomorphs, seemingly uncaring about anything else. It makes sense that she would want revenge, but surely she would also want to know what happened to her loved ones

As it turns out, she did.

In a scene that made Sigourney Weaver very cross when it was cut, Ripley is given a docket of information about her daughter Amanda. It turns out that she had passed away just two years earlier, leaving her mother distraught.

It's a very powerful scene that would have added a lot of depth to Ripley's character in this film. Sigourney was right - this was a bad call.
