10 Deleted Scenes That Explain Confusing Star Trek Moments
6. Star Trek Nemesis - Spot's New Owner
The Mystery:
What happened to Data's cat?
The Deleted Scene:
Audiences probably weren't too worried about Spot after Data exploded during the climax of Star Trek Nemesis, but the cat did appear in the film and his/her (depending on what episode you watch) fate then went unexplained.
Along with Beverly Crusher, the final film simply ignores what happened to Worf, LaForge, and yes Data's cat after the Android gave his life for his ship and crew. A deleted scene was shot that showed a grieving Worf and LaForge sort through Data's old things in his quarters.
The scene featured several easter eggs from the course of Data's life (his Sherlock Holmes pipe from TNG, his sailor's hat from Star Trek Generations) and showed Worf adopting Spot. In itself a callback to the time Worf cared for Spot in the episode "Phantasms", this might've been the kind of cute note the film could've used in an otherwise dreary slog. And we could've had a moment to say goodbye to Worf, LaForge, and, yes, Spot.
