10 Deleted Scenes Which Solve Baffling Movie Mysteries

3. Who Was Rob Talking To On The Phone? - High Fidelity

High Fidelity John Cusack

The Mystery:

In Stephen Frears' delightful rom-com, protagonist Rob (John Cusack) is shown taking one of his many phone calls throughout the movie, and though they all tend to have some sort of basic, dramatic pay-off, there's one distinctive call Rob takes inside his record store that just...happens.

Rob indicates interest in something, and then this narrative through-line is just dropped completely. So, who was the caller, and what were they offering?

The Deleted Scene:

This has one of the more satisfying and memorable answers on this list, and it's a deleted scene which absolutely, positively should've stayed in the final cut of the film.

After taking the call, Rob visits a married woman (Beverly D'Angelo) who wants to sell her husband's expensive record collection to Rob for a mere $50 after he cheated on her with an 18-year-old.

Rob's conscience forces him to offer a far greater sum, resulting in an hilarious game of reverse-haggling as the wife tries to keep the price low and Rob wants to make sure she's given a more princely sum.

Rob ultimately decides not to go ahead with the deal, placing a wholesome capper on an hysterical sequence which adds a ton of charm to a movie already overflowing with it.

On the flip side, though, the film is already 113 minutes in length, so you can sort-of appreciate why it got the chop.
