7. We've Already Seen JJ Abrams' Star Wars
We're not saying Bad Robot's reboot of the Star Trek film franchise is bad - it's a whole load of fun, actually - but one of the main complaints Trekkers levelled against Star Trek and Into Darkness is that they're not actually Trek films. They retain all the surface qualities (characters, planets, very basic themes) of Gene Roddenberry's universe, but at heart Abrams' films have way more in common with George Lucas' mythos. It's something that's been openly admitted by the director in the past, that he was far more influenced by Star Wars than Star Trek, and it really shows. So if we've already seen what Abrams' Star Wars-inspired work turns out like, can we really expect anything that much different from his shot at the real thing?
