10 Most Destructive Movie Monsters

1. Godzilla (Godzilla)

The biggest movie monster of them all, and perhaps even the most misunderstood. Godzilla is not simply a rampaging beast, although he is responsible for the destruction of major cities (usually Tokyo and New York) and land masses. Over 28 movies originated in Japan with two American remakes and countless spinoffs, including the fondly remembered 1980€™s cartoons, meaning that, if you count up the damage caused by this reptilian product of the atomic age, Godzilla is the single most destructive monster in the movies. He€™s also one of the most adaptable: his basic size has changed according to the tallest buildings in Tokyo and New York so that no matter what major landmarks are seen in the movies, he can still tower over them in the moments before he performs a quick demolition job. But throughout every incarnation, the basic design - that of an upright monster with scales on his back - has remained essentially unchanged, even if he has moved from being a man in a suit to a terrifying CGI creation. Unlike many on this list, Godzilla isn€™t simply a mindless killing machine or a predator. Most of the time, humans and human society, are of no interest to him. He just wants to be left in peace, really, and survives on radiation and a somewhat omnivorous, rather than carnivorous, diet. He€™s far more interested in battling other mutated creatures than in teeny-tiny humans. Shogo Tomiyama, one of the original producers of the film once compared him to a Shinto, a God of destruction. He doesn€™t really care about good or evil. He is like a hurricane or an earthquake. And just like a hurricane or an earthquake, when Godzilla appears, insurance companies start getting very nervous indeed€
