10 Devious Ways Movies Tried To Trick You

9. Ed Spills The Beans - Shaun Of The Dead

Zodiac Arthur Leigh Allen
Universal Pictures

It's quite hard to believe that Shaun of the Dead will be 20 years old this year. And, although it's been around the block for two decades now, it only continues to grow in cult following and popularity.

It's hilarious, horrifying and heartbreaking showcasing Wright's wealthy arsenal of cinematic techniques that make him so well revered and respected in the industry. You'll know you're watching an Edgar Wright film for a lot of reasons but his fondness of foreshadowing may just take the cake.

No one does it better and Shaun of the Dead is the blueprint for utilising the plot device efficiently and effectively without it becoming distracting,

It's a ploy laced throughout the film, but there isn't a word spoken or action delivered that is as timeless as Nick Frost's Ed telling Simon Pegg's recently dumped Shaun and the viewer the entire plot of the film.

"We'll have a Bloody Mary in the morning, a bite at the King's Head, a couple at the Little Princess, stagger back here and BANG! Back at the bar for shots."

With Mary acting as the first zombie Shaun and Ed encounter and eventually kill in their garden, Shaun's stepdad Phillip (Bill Nighy) is bitten as they attempt to save his mum (Penelope Wilton) and later Kate Ashfield's Liz before they act like zombies to make their escape to the Winchester before swapping shots for gunshots to fend off the waves of the undead. It's a scene that may have gone over many's heads but once discovered, only makes the film all the more memorable.
