While the world and general public most certainly know who is Rian Johnson is following The Last Jedi, he has been quietly working as one of the best writer/directors in Hollywood for the past decade or so. Specializing in visually unique slices of genre film, Johnson has honed his craft into a true art.

Which is what makes the fact that practically his entire career was inspired by The Muppets such a delightful revelation.

When Mark Hamill recently tweeted at Johnson, begging him to avoid seeing his guest appearance on The Muppets Show from when he was promoting Empire, Johnson responded in the most unexpected of ways. Hamill's appearance on said show involved Hamill appearing in a dual role; as himself and as Luke Skywalker, performing together.

Johnson's response featured a screenshot of the two Hamills alongside images from Looper and Rey's cave sequence from The Last Jedi, both of which feature the protagonists of the film facing doppelgangers of themselves. This is a recurring motif throughout Johnson's work, in which a character must face a mirror reflection of themselves.
