10 Directors Who Always Make The Same Movie

9 Tim Burton

Tim BurtonThe Movie: The Gothic Horror Comedy Starring Helena Bonham Carter Though Tim Burton directed some of my favourite films I grew up watching - Beetlejuice, Batman and Edward Scissorhands specifically - it's become increasingly difficult to defend the guy in recent years because he seems to just be leaning on his signature style as a crutch rather than actually coming up with something remotely original and interesting. Though his stop-motion animation Frankenweenie was a pleasant surprise, prior to that it's just been over-produced, underwritten fare that milks the gothic aesthetic he's best known for, and more often than not casts his wife Helena Bonham Carter in a supporting role. I'm not saying I want Burton to direct a social realist drama or anything, but would it kill the guy to experiment with another colour palette for once? I'm so bored of his work at the moment; he just doesn't seem to really care all that much.
