10 Directors Who Completely Ruined Their Careers With One Movie

2. Joel Schumacher

Batman & RobinThe Killer Movie: Batman & Robin That's right, the man who killed Batman for a while, and proved that you actually can embrace the camp too much in summer blockbusters by sticking some nipples on an armoured suit, was actually a good director once. His reputation may have been horribly destroyed by his wayward creative decisions in both of his Batman movies but before he became something of a joke, he made St Elmo's Fire, The Lost Boys, Flatliners, Falling Down and A Time To Kill. To be honest, and quite surprisingly, Schumacher's career demise wasn't as quick as you might have expected, but the errors in Batman & Robin opened him to a lot more criticism, and suddenly the man who had made several masterpieces was the director who'd brought us the awful 8MM, and Bad Company, which unfeasibly teamed Sir Anthony Hopkins with Chris Rock, or even the opulent but hollow Phantom Of The Opera. And while Schumacher continued to make films, he hasn't been an important director since his infinitely stupid idea of turning Batman into a pantomime.
