7. Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels)
One of the most shockingly inconsistent directors working today, Guy Ritchie broke the big time with his outrageous gangster flick Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, which he then followed up with the almost-as-great Snatch, though from here on in, it's a rollercoaster ride of quality indeed. His Swept Away was a major change of pace for the director, something we can only assume that came about because of his marriage to the film's lead, Madonna, and he followed this up with the impenetrable, even pretentious Revolver. It wasn't until 2008's Rocknrolla that Ritchie bounced back, even if the results were far away from his best work, and similarly, his two Sherlock Holmes films have had solid receptions though just aren't a patch on the work that brought him to the dance.
