1. Martin Scorsese
Notable Films: Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, The Departed, Mean Streets The master himself, and no doubt one of the greatest of all time, I will slam down my ten dollars and go into whatever film Scorsese has made. The man is not infallible- no artist is, but he creates a world that is so easy for us to get lost in again and again. Since Scorsese's career goes back decades there's always going to be some bad seeds throughout, but the man hits more than he misses. I watched Goodfellas three or four times a week when I was a kid, and it stands on top as one of the best mob movies ever made. The Departed is easily one of the best films of that decade, with solid performances, and great direction from Marty himself. It's fun to watch Scorsese find a new actor and use him again and again in ways that never tire, from De Nero to DiCaprio. More recently, Scorsese put some time into HBOs Boardwalk Empire, which is visually stunning thanks to his direction on the pilot. His forthcoming Wolf of Wall Street looks to be promising, written by Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter. Which directors do you look forward to seeing? Yell back below!
