10 Disappointing Movies That Ruined Summer 2013

3. Kick-Ass 2

kick-ass-2Did It Succeed?: The film releases today in the UK and Friday in the US, so no word on financials yet, though given the incredibly low $28 million budget, it'd have to flop hard not to make a profit. At the time of press, the film sits at 55% on Rotten Tomatoes after 11 reviews and looks to be dropping fast. Why It's Disappointing: The critical consensus so far suggests that while Matthew Vaughn's original film managed to be both a celebration and satire of every teenage boy's dream - to become a superhero - Kick-Ass 2 simply indulges it too far, and the second time around, the shock and awe effect is severely reduced. As is so often the case with sequels, it seems that bigger - in terms of throwing more superheroes onto the screen - simply isn't better, and after the audaciousness of the original film, the same tactics just don't work the second time around.
