10 Disney Animated Deaths That Scarred You For Life

2. Mufasa (The Lion King)

Pretty much everyone on Earth has seen the Lion King, and if you haven't, what's wrong with you? It's a film packed full of memorable moments, but the death of Mufasa manages to stand out by being utterly heartfelt but at the same time, anger-inducing, with your sheer fury toward Scar fueling your engagement in the rest of the movie.

After rescuing Simba from a stampede of wildebeest, Mufasa desperately tries to climb out of harm's way by scaling a nearby wall. Just as he nears the top and you think he's made it, up pops Scar, Mufasa's jealous brother, who proceeds to throw his sibling to his death in order to inherit the throne. Later on, Simba finds his father's lifeless body, sobbing and frantically nudging his corpse in a fruitless attempt to reveal any signs of life.

The Lion King is a story that explores family dynamics, but here, one of the most conventional and reliable - the trust between two brothers - is shattered in a flash. Scar murders Mufasa in cold blood out of sheer greed, and a part of you won't quite be able to believe what you're watching. Mufasa is so strong, brave and kind, so how can he be killed so easily and wastefully? Every time Scar pops up on screen you'll be reminded of what he did, and this hatred will stay with you long after the credits have rolled.
