10 Disney Films With Shockingly Dark Source Material

Aladdin is a charming pauper to a prince story which features the charm oozing voice work of the late, great Robin Williams. There is a lot to like about this particular Disney classic. However, it is vastly different to its pretty dark source material.

Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves is actually a story within a story. One Thousand and One Nights is basically a story about a young woman distracting a genocidal Persian king from killing her, like he killed so many young brides before her, by telling him a never ending tale. So there's that to start.

And then there is Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, a story within this horrible tale that features dead bodies being sewn back together, several thieves being cooked in burning oil and a heart stabbing knife dance. It's actually tough to see where Disney found much inspiration for the movie they eventually made from this story but I'm sure there are many fans who are glad they did.
