3. A Serbian Film (2010)
A nasty, violent film which was understandably given NC-17 status considering the scope of its near legendary depravity. Milos is a former hardcore porn performer who has retired and lives a peaceful life with his beautiful wife and young son. His porno proceeds are dwindling and his dream of getting his little family out of Serbia is fading fast. Milos is lured into starring one final time in an independently produced porno movie in which he will be the main star. He reluctantly agrees and finds himself in a world of extreme violence, child abuse and paedophilia, rape, murder, incest and to top that off - a dash of necrophilia is added to the mix. With such provocative imagery as a man raping a new born baby, A Serbian Film, directed by Srdan Spasojevic, cannot really be an R rating unless you cut great swathes of the film out. It is supposed to be a protest piece about how the Serbian authorities have screwed Serbian natives over, but the message is not put across properly. The film is too outré with its violence and depravity and merely consists of one OTT piece of sexual violence after another. I didn't come away with any deep thoughts about Serbia after watching the films, I was instead assaulted by its violence and perversity. There is no home for A Serbian Story except in the realms of NC-17 hardcore filth.
