10 Dumb Mistakes That Killed Horror Movie Characters
9. David Drives, Shoots And Leaves - The Mist
Based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, Frank Darabont's The Mist (2007) plants us in Bridgton, Maine, as a mysterious mist encroaches on the town, bringing creatures and carnage with it.
Amongst the initial survivors hole up in the supermarket, are tortured artist and Stephen King surrogate David (Thomas Jane) and his eight-year-old son Billy (Nathan Gamble), who are forced to battle tentacles, bugs, arachni-lobsters and their fellow townsfolk, the latter of whom begin offering up human sacrifices to appease the invaders. Nevertheless, David, Billy and three other survivors make it out alive, gunning David's Land Cruiser out of town... until it runs out of petrol.
Rather than waiting to see whether the mist will clear, or hiding from the monsters in the car, or, you know, watching in the wing-mirrors for thirty seconds longer, David takes the executive decision to shoot and kill all of his troupe with the four bullets left in Amanda's (Laurie Holden) revolver.
Seconds later, the government – who are responsible for opening the dimension that let these hell creatures in, by the way – have drafted in the army and are putting monsters to the torch in the good 'ol 'Murican tradition.
Talk about a dumb and deadly mistake.
