10 Dumbest Criticisms Of Star Wars

5. "Jar Jar Binks Is A Senator Now?!"

Let's be clear: this is no endorsement of Jar Jar Binks - Binks is, by far, the worst character in any Star Wars film, not to mention one of the worst in all of cinema full-stop. And considering what happened to Jar Jar after The Phantom Menace, it would appear George Lucas took the fan reaction to this Rastafarian frog-man seriously. By Revenge Of The Sith, Jar Jar has no dialogue at all, but it's what you see of Jar Jar in Attack Of The Clones that's most interesting. Having been made a delegate for the Galactic Senate, it's Jar Jar who makes the speech in favour of Chancellor Palpatine gaining emergency powers, powers which will eventually lead to his rise as the Emperor. The fate of Jar Jar Binks post-Phantom Menace is quietly one of the smartest bits of writing from Lucas in the entire prequel trilogy. Jar Jar's very appointment as a Senator can be read as a pointed attack on the stupidity of politics (and the ease in which someone can become a politician as long as they know the right people), while the fact the most hated character in Star Wars history effectively initiates what will be a series of lengthy, destructive wars indicates Lucas may have been listening to the bitching all along.
