10 Dumbest Movie Plot Twists Of 2014

9. Love Is A Force - Interstellar

The Twist: Compared to Inception or The Prestige, Interstellar was Christopher Nolan working with a generally standard narrative structure. There's no ambiguous ending, nor a movie altering reveal in the final moments. But there is still that universe-realigning discovery that love is the most powerful force in the universe, allowing Matthew McConnaughey to travel through time to his daughter's bedroom. If you've not seen the film, let's just clarify that isn't made up - that's literally what happens. Why It's So Dumb: When Dr. Brand, one of the world's best scientists, first brings up her totally un-scientific theory about love being a force, rather than a mix of chemicals brought about by man's inherent social nature, it's easy to chalk that up to longing for un-seen love interest Edmunds. That is until Cooper goes into a black hole and suddenly the audience learns it was all true. The fifth-dimensional beings that created the wormholes being future humans? Absolutely fine. Cooper sending the secrets of gravity using Morse code and a second hand? Just go with it. All of this being happening out of Cooper's love for his daughter? That's where the line is. Interstellar as a film isn't as dumb as some of its critics would like you to think, but having the entire human race saved by a father-daughter dynamic is Nolan trying too hard to deal with the criticisms of him being emotionally cold.
