8. President Coin Is The Real Big Bad - Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2

The Twist: The Rebellion's won the war against the Capitol and despite her sister being killed by her hunky boyfriend, things are looking up for Katniss (seriously, what's with the delayed reaction to Prim's death?). That is until she learns that Rebel leader President Coin is just as bad as President Snow, using the uprising against the totalitarian society as a means to gain ultimate power for herself. Why It's So Dumb: Mockingjay is widely regarded as the weakest Hunger Games book, and even ignoring the needless split in two the films only serve to back this up. The final half hour is full of sudden and unexpected plot turns that come out of nowhere and are unexpectedly resolved, although none are mishandled more than this sudden reveal of Coin's motivations. One minute she's an ethereal (if ruthless) presence, the next she's plotting her own version of the Hunger Games (although there are worst games to play - I really don't like ping pong). Where the film really messes up is Katniss' handling of the situation - her choice to kill Coin instead of Snow (he's ravaged by the proletariat) almost makes out that she's a worse evil, a rather black and white assessment of a murky grey area.
