10 Dumbest Things In The Worst Summer Movie Season Ever
7. Koba Lives? - Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes
The Scene: At the end of the credits, we can hear the shallow breathing of an ape and what appears to be the sound of it escaping from rubble. Why It's Dumb: This is obviously supposed to be a tease that Koba (Toby Kebbell) has survived being dropped to his apparent death by Caesar at the end of the movie. However, it's a needless and silly move on Matt Reeves' part if he really intends to resurrect Koba for the third film in the trilogy, because the entire point of Caesar letting Koba drop was that it had to mean something. After all, he spends the entire movie espousing the philosophy that "ape shall not kill ape", and so when he chose to do it, it had to be under the most extreme and desperate of circumstances. To bring Koba back would reduce the emotional, visceral impact of Caesar's act, in much the same way that bringing Agent Coulson back from the dead in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. somewhat ruins his fantastically upsetting death scene in The Avengers. Hopefully Reeves and co. will realise this, and Caesar will still be reeling from the consequences of his act in Apes 3, where Koba won't show his face.
