10. Prometheus
Few films are as free of spoiler restraint as Prometheus. At first, it looked like the marketing was going to be holding ack, teasing at the Alien connection. But as the film approached, we got increasingly long adverts detailing creatures and events that would make even the calmest fan scream spoiler. But the stupidity of showing the fate of the titular ship and the proto-facehugger in the trailers pales in comparison next to the home release. The film had been criticised for being left too open and not answering any of its major questions, so it seemed logical for the release to take the angle of providing answers. However, I think its fair to say the best way to do this is on the disc itself, rather than what was done. Slapping an engineer on the cover is a good idea for those whove seen the film, but to anyone who missed it in cinemas, it is a reveal way too early. Yes, the engineers technically appear before humans in the film, but its a key surprise and sets audiences cogs whirring way too early. The promotional campaign went a step further, promising answers by putting as many spoiler stills as possible in a 30 second TV advert.
