10 Embarrassing Spelling Mistakes You Won't Believe Made It Into Movies

9. "Police Suspect 'Cat' Burglar In Jewel Hiest" - The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Screen shot 2013-02-15 at 11.06.59 "Hey, honey, have you seen this? The police think that a cat burglar might have been involved in that jewel... hiest?" Hiest. That's right: "Police Suspect Cat Burglar In Jewel Hiest." And given that he's a director consistently renowed for his perfectionism, the fact that this little ditty made its way into Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises is extremely surprising and hugely embarrassing. Didn't anybody look at this thing at least once after it was mocked up and think to mention that it contained a glaring spelling error? The fact that this Gotham Newspaper (which is brought up on a computer screen in the confines of the film) was presumably seen by, say, ten people (at least) working on The Dark Knight Rises - none who thought to correct it - is seriously bizarre. As soon as you read the headline, your brain tells you there's something wrong with the sentence. And yet - apparently too busy writing working up new plot holes for their movie - the Nolan Brothers didn't think to correct it.
