10 Embarrassingly Poor Horror Movie Monsters
7. Killer Klowns From Outer Space
A bit like regular clowns, the 1988 alien invasion movie Killer Klowns From Outer Space is supposed to be funny, but it’s actually just embarrassing.
It's a wilfully schlocky parody of small-town invasion movies like Invaders From Mars, It Came From Outer Space, and Critters, poking fun at a hokey subgenre and having a bit of harmless, punky fun. But its attempts at campy horror comedy just come off as forced, desperate, and a little bit sad. Again, a bit like regular clowns.
The Killer Klowns are unpleasant enough, but only in the way that an awkward joke during Christmas dinner is unpleasant: just uncomfortable and weird enough to make you wish you were doing something else.
At best, they're unpleasant in the way that an unconvincing puppet is just kind of not very nice. More often than not, it's just flatulent and boring.
This film is evidence, were any more needed, that 'it's supposed to be silly' is no defence at all. Cream pies, but they kill you! Haha. Klownzilla! I am rolling on the floor, laughing my ass off.
There's no risk of dying laughing while watching this burning litter tray of a movie. Turn it off.
