6. Johnny Depp - Secret Window

These days, Johnny Depp is something of a mainstream Hollywood darling and for good reason. His ability to tread the tightrope between weird and magical is famed across the world and made him the perfect candidate for a creative partnership with the eternally strange auteur Tim Burton. In Secret Window, David Koepp's faux-cerebral Steven King adaptation, Depp does admittedly have his famed quirkiness in tow, however his turn as mentally spiraling writer Mort Rainey (how very Steven King, am I right?) is about as close to a phone-in, as close to auto-pilot as Depp gets. True, Secret Window isn't a
terrible movie and Depp isn't
terrible in it but make no mistake, he's about a fraction as good as he can be at his best. As a career low-point, it's totally forgivable but if Secret Window represented the peak of Depp's standard, I very much doubt he'd be as successful as he is.
