The MCU didn’t have a lot of strong villains to hold up the narrative for the longest time. Some stood out more than others, but most of them didn’t have that edge or personality to make them memorable.
But starting with phase 3, Marvel began to put all their bets on the antagonists with villains like Hela and Thanos, who stood as some of the best Marvel villains to appear in the MCU. Among them was Killmonger, the outcast from Wakanda who wanted to open up his homeworld to the outside.
More than anything else, he’s a tragic character. He was treated like an outsider by his home country for his whole life and never got the recognition he felt he deserved, and even though his beliefs were reasonable, his ways were problematic, which is why T’Challa had to put him down.
Even in defeat, Killmonger didn’t struggle. Instead, he accepted his death by looking at Wakanda one last time in a genuinely tear-jerking scene that proves not all villains are necessarily evil. Some want what they thought was right.
