7. Rama & Andi vs. Mad Dog - The Raid

The Raid The best action movie of last year and, indeed, of the last several, Gareth Evans' mind-blowing martial arts flick The Raid redefined what the genre could be, not skimping on the action and taking its high concept to its most absolute expression - a relentless, break-neck, hyper-violent orgy of hand-to-hand combat. This climaxes in an astonishing 2-on-1 handicap match between cop Rama, his criminal brother Andi, and their mutual enemy Mad Dog, the crazy gangster who has spent his evening murdering as many of Rama's colleagues as possible. The final fight is a masterstroke of sustained violence, with Mad Dog proving adept enough a fighter to spend most of the fight taking on both men at once. It's only when Rama is able to stab a broken flourescent light tube into Mad Dog's throat that he finally goes down. Needless to say, Rama and Andi must have felt it the next day...
