1. The Entire Filmography of Alfred Hitchcock
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPt-4Nwght0 If Sexual Innuendo was a nation, Alfred Hitchcock would be its unequivocal commander-in-chief for life. Hitch, who made almost all of his films at the height of the Hollywood Production Code, really pushed the boundaries and tested the limits of what filmmakers could get away with and in many ways led to the abandonment of the Production Code in favor for the MPAA ratings system (which came with an entirely different set of ridiculous decisions and drawbacks, but at least doesn't flat-out censor films as the Production Code did). Looking back, it's truly remarkable what Hitch managed to sneak bast the censors. Hitchcock's innuendos can be traced back to 1936's Sabotage, which featured a scene with Charles Hawtrey discussing the sex life of oysters. Later, in 1955, Hitchcock released To Catch a Thief which featured one of his most oft-imitated innuendos: After a scene of flirtatious banter between Frances Stevens and John Robie (Grace Kelly and Cary Grant), Robie leans in to take Frances... and we cut away to the fireworks out over Monaco bay. In Rear Window, Grace Kelly's Lisa Fremont arrives one night at the apartment of L.B. Jeffries (James Stewart) with a nightgown and an overnight bag... not exactly the most subtle of prepositions. But the innuendo peaked in Rear Window, which ends with one of the most famous shots in Hitchcock's career. After clearing his name and saving the girl, Roger Thornhill (Cary Grant) gets cozy with Eve Kendall (Eva Marie Saint) in a train compartment. Just as he leans in for a kiss, Hitch cuts to a shot of the train speedily entering a tunnel. How this got past the censors, I will still never understand. Either they had a wicked sense of humor, or they were just ridiculously obtuse.
Sexiest Moment: Anything featuring Hitchcock's famous blondes - so basically, all of it. Of course, there are too many great ones to count, and some of the best didn't make the cut - Basic Instinct, Wild Things, and others. So, what are some of your favorite erotic scenes or innuendos in films? Start the conversation in the comments below, and thanks for reading!
On a personal note, I am currently fundraising for a new short film I will be directing in a couple of months. Its called Mastodon, and it is a very exciting and very ambitious project. If you enjoy my articles and wish to support artists and independent filmmakers just trying to do what they love, please consider donating to the project! You can read more about the film and send in donations on our Indiegogo page:http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/mastodon. Thank you!
