After a 23 year wait fans of the bizarre and strange were once again treated to the cinematic delights of one of the most unique filmmakers of all time - Alejandro Jodorowsky released his semi-autobiographical movie The Dance Of Reality to great fanfare. Set in his home town of Tocopilla in Chile, The Dance Of Reality is far from a conventional, straightforward biopic - typically for Jodorowsky, the film flirts with the political and the personal, the spiritual and the secular as it lays out his boyhood, with frequent flights of fantasy and references to mythology littered throughout. Bearing more than a passing resemblance to the work of great Italian director Federico Fellini, The Dance Of Reality is a visual tour de force which denies the objectivity of memory and history and reconfigures it as something more akin to a process of magical revolution. Alejandro Jodorowsky may well be in his 80s now but this is cinema full of the vitality of youth and life itself. With a bit of luck there will be more to come from this singular filmmaker.
