If you want to see martial arts action done right you generally have to head over to South East Asia and check out their movies, and The Raid 2: Berendal is no exception, with the added oddity of being directed by Gareth Evans, a Welshman. Kicking off where the previous Raid movie ended, The Raid 2 goes straight into the action with a stunning brawl in a toilet and the action keeps coming thick and fast from there on. While Evans has clearly striven to inject a denser plot to the sequel - and there's plenty of double crossing between the various criminal factions vying for control of the city - it's the fight scenes and an incredible car chase which really stand out. Made on a budget of just $4 million, this looks better than most Hollywood action films that cost ten times that amount. It certainly helps that the stunt performers and fighters are world class - this is bone-crunching, high-kicking bloody action at its finest.
