Starring Mark Duplass and directed by mumblecore pioneer Lynn Shelton, this is a romantic comedy that is more intelligent than any chick flick thats been churned out by Hollywood. It has real people, trying to deal with real issues. It is a simple film about alcohol, sex, family and unspoken love... and it's heartbreakingly funny. Jack (Duplass) is in mourning after the death of his brother. His best friend, Iris (Emily Blunt), invites him to spend time at her familys remote cabin to get away and clear his head. When he arrives, he finds Iris sister (Rosemarie DeWitt) is already in the cabin. She is there because she has just left her lesbian partner of seven years. She is drinking and Jack joins her, and that natural thing happens when two lonely people are drinking together and find each other attractive; they have sex. The next morning Iris arrives and complications arise as its clear there is some form of attraction between the two best friends. While this may sound like a generic romantic comedy set up; it really lacks any other stereotypes often associated with rom-coms. Its much smarter and doesn't rely on stupid cliches like mix ups at costume parties or two people hating each other before falling in love. Its about real people, who say and do stupid things and who dont really have life figured out. Its raw, its honest and its funny.
