10 Essential Parts Of Movie Franchises (That Weren’t Introduced Until The Sequel)

3. Curt Conners - Spider-Man 2

The Iconic Element: Even though the third film was a movie as expensive as it was embarrassing, there's a lot of fan excitement spent on the Spider-Man 4 that might have been; Anne Hathaway as Black Cat, John Malcovich as The Vulture and no bloody parents mystery. One of the biggest pieces of set-up through Sam Raimi's trilogy was that of the Lizard, with Dylan Baker's Dr. Curt Connors popping up ahead of a promised transformation to scold a worn out Peter and take some of that black goo. Given how The Amazing Spider-Man brought the character to prominence, it's become a central part of the "What ifs?" When It Was Actually Introduced: The prominence of Baker's Lizard in the hype around Spider-Man 4 creates the illusion that he was a key piece of foreshadowing present throughout the three movies, but that's not really true. Connors only plays a rather minor part in proceedings and wasn't actually introduced until Spider-Man 2, where he's little more than a plot device to get Peter to meet Otto Octavius. Still, this slight seed-sowing clearly had an impact on the high-ups at Sony, who brought the villain, if not the actor, back for the reboot, where Rhys Ifans plotted to turn all of New York into reptiles because the third act of the film was written drunk.
