10 Even More Movie Roles Obviously Designed For Other Actors
3. Dr. No In Dr. No - Christopher Lee
The movie that started the biggest film franchise of all time, Dr. No first introduced the world to the dashing misogynist known as Bond, James Bond.
The film whisks Bond away to a private island, owned by the eponymous antagonist. His name is genuinely Dr. Julius No.
No wonder he became a super villain.
Eon Productions had their perfect hero in Sean Connery, so now they needed to find someone for him to go up against. Bond creator Ian Fleming had a few ideas, although they were mostly to serve his own purposes.
He originally suggested one of his good friends Noel Coward for the part, who declined by screaming "No! No! No!" in Fleming's face.
His next idea was for Dracula actor (Dracul-actor?) Christopher Lee to take the part, which would have suited him perfectly seeing as Lee was step-cousin.
Nepotism to one side, Lee would have been a perfect Dr. No. His imposing figure would have been far more effective than Joseph Wiseman's and there's just something about the way he looks that screams "This man is evil!"
Ah well, at least we got him as Scaramanga in The Man With the Golden Gun.
