10 Everyday Things Horror Movies Have Made Terrifying

A lot of children have dolls that they hold tight through the night to protect them through their darkest dreams. The fantasy of those dolls or action figures coming to life has been the inspiration for quite a few films, like the Toy Story series, or Small Soldiers. For adults though, the thought of that happening is the start of a new nightmare.

The Twilight Zone popularized the killer doll as a horror device with their episode aptly titled, Living Doll. In the 80s though, it was brought into Generation X's subconscious by the film Child's Play, a satire of the commercialism that ran rampant through that decade. The foul mouthed doll became an icon of his own appearing in sequel after sequel, ironically getting his own doll in the process.

Since then, movies about dolls that are either alive or possessed by an evil spirit, have persisted and even diversified. While Child's Play was typical slasher fare, movies like Annabelle use their grotesque porcelain doll as a source of psychological horror rather than physical.

Regardless of what way the parents are getting scared, they'll be checking the batteries of all their kids' dolls, and praying they never become as alive as their children hope they do.
