10 Exact Moments Fans Turned On HYPED Movies

3. The Black Plague, Disney-style - Beauty And The Beast (2017)

Another bizarrely dark moment in an originally kid-friendly film, 2017's Beauty and the Beast features a scene revolving around the real life tragedy of the Black Plague which a lot of viewers felt derailed the film's potential.

There were a multitude of other issues with this film, but central to the annoyance of most fans was its indecisive approach to history.

Le Fou's illiteracy is a joke early in the film, which grounds the tone temporarily. Evidently, the audience is watching a lighthearted fantastical film with no claim to historical accuracy, as otherwise mocking peasants for their illiteracy and poverty would be a tasteless and unnecessary joke.

Not an hour later, however, viewers are treated to the gruesome sight of a plague doctor tending to Belle's dying mother, and the film is apparently trying to touch on the deathly serious and very real tragedy of the Black Plague.

It's a disastrously dark moment that bemuses young viewers who came for the talking cutlery, and bums out anyone looking for escapism, guaranteeing that this attempt at self-seriousness from Disney became another misstep for the inconsistent studio.
