10 Exact Moments Horror Movie Villains Knew They’d Lost

9. Is This Your Card? - Hostel

Hostel Dutch Businessman
Lionsgate

Eli Roth’s Hostel, along with the Saw franchise, is a beloved staple of the torture porn subgenre. Telling the story of a couple of American tourists - and their Icelandic pal - unwittingly dragged into a psychotic club that auctions off people to be tortured for fun, this 2005 offering is a brutal satire of ignorance and privilige.

One such tourist is Paxton, who finds himself at the mercy of Johann, an enthusiastic German with a love of torturing but who's also a smidge clumsy. Highlighting that, Johann accidentally breaks Paxton's restraints as he hacks at his victim's fingers with a chainsaw. Making the most of his newfound freedom, Paxton kills his attacker and rummages through his pockets, where he takes a business card that he uses to pass himself off as a part of this nefarious Elite Hunting Group.

After a quick change of clothes, Paxton becomes embroiled in a blood-soaked escape that results in him just about making it to safety on a train. There, he happens to spot an unnamed Dutch businessman he'd met earlier, and who would subsequently torture and kill his best pal Josh.

Following this Dutchman to a public bathroom, Paxton slips the Elite Hunting Group business card under this villain's stall, with the businessman having a split second to realise what's happening, as the penny drops and he's attacked and killed by Paxton.
