10 Excuses Actors Used For Blowing Major Movie Auditions

5. Tim Curry Claims He Was "Too Terrifying" - Who Framed Roger Rabbit

Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Fox

The Role

Judge Doom, the evil, corrupt, toon-hating superior court judge of Toontown, who is ultimately responsible for framing Roger Rabbit and relishes murdering toons with his special "dip" chemical.

Doom was played with terrifying glee by the great Christopher Lloyd, cementing the character as one of the most iconic and unforgettable villains in cinema history.

The Audition

Tim Curry, who had terrified audiences a few years earlier as the Lord of Darkness in Ridley Scott's Legend - though hadn't yet played Pennywise in the It miniseries - was in the mix to play Judge Doom, though he claims that the producers ultimately found his audition too terrifying for its own good.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit walks on a tonal razor's edge as it is, in trying to appeal to both adult fans of film noir and young fans of animation, and evidently the filmmakers felt that Curry's innate creepiness was just too much.

Considering how skin-crawling Lloyd's performance is, once can only imagine what Curry must've brought to the table.
