1. Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), Alien (1979)
So we are now at number one, and I conclude my list, with the obvious choice I'm sure you all guessed by now. Ellen Ripley, born in the year 2092, became a Warrant Officer working on the Nostromo in 2122. After her and the rest of the crew are awaken 10 months prematurely by Mother (the ship's computer), all hell breaks loose. A facehugger attacks Executive Officer Kane while the crew investigates the mysterious planet LV-426, that had been sending odd signals to Mother, and following the attack an alien bursts out of his chest, in arguably one of the most iconic moments in film history. Ripley uses her intellect, and her strength to fight the Xenomorph and she comes out victorious - and is the last person left alive on the Nostromo ship. She escapes from the Nostromo in a shuttle and goes into hypersleep for 57 years until she is rescued by a salvage crew and promoted to Lieutenant, and reluctantly returns to LV-426. Ellen Ripley is the poster girl for strong female characters, and I believe that she was an obvious choice for number one.
So, as I said at the beginning, this is a list of just some of the coolest female characters in film: who am I missing? Leave your opinions below.
