After a fan well-versed in all things firearms wrote a letter to Ian Fleming, the iconic Walther PPK 7.65mm would go on to be one of the most well-known movie firearms around. Initially reluctant to swap out his Beretta for the childlike appearance of the PPK, Bond soon comes to realise that dynamite does indeed come in smaller packages.

The gun would not have featured in the book or film series had it not been for the Bond superfan and British firearms expert Geoffrey Boothroyd. When writing to the author, Boothroyd described 007's then-firearm of choice as a 'lady's gun'. Instead of taking offence and dismissing the letter entirely, Fleming wrote back and asked the expert for advice on what gun Bond should carry instead. Thus the Walther PPK made its first appearance, and Bond has never looked back.

For 35 years, this gun remained his firearm of choice, bar Octopussy, until 1997, when he opted for the P99 instead in Tomorrow Never Dies. The P99 stayed around for the Brosnan era and a bit of the Craig era, but in Quantum of Solace, the iconic duo are reunited again.
