10 Failed Alternatives To Upcoming Comic Book Movies
2. Roger Avary's Sandman
Upcoming Film: Sandman. Director: TBC Alternative Film: Sandman. Director: Roger Avary The final two entries on this list relate to films that have been unofficially confirmed but no planned release date has been given. Neil Gaiman's Sandman has been on Warner Bros' slate of films in development for a while. David Goyer is writing the screenplay - one the studio is apparently very happy with - and Joseph Gordon-Levitt will star. This will be the second attempt to bring Sandman to life on the big screen. Writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio produced a script for Warner Bros, which they initially rejected until director Roger Avary stepped in. Script re-writes were done and Avary planned to use a mix of animation and stop motion using claymation and puppetry. Sadly Avary stepped out again to work on another project, citing 'creative differences'. The producers apparently wanted a more traditional superhero and the project died. Fingers are crossed that it won't get stuck in development hell this time.
A writer for Whatculture since May 2013, I also write for TheRichest.com and am the TV editor and writer for Thedigitalfix.com . I wrote two plays for the Greater Manchester Horror Fringe in 2013, the first an adaption of Simon Clark's 'Swallowing A Dirty Seed' and my own original sci-fi horror play 'Centurion', which had an 8/10* review from Starburst magazine! (http://www.starburstmagazine.com/reviews/eventsupcoming-genre-events/6960-event-review-centurion) I also wrote an episode for online comedy series Supermarket Matters in 2012. I aim to achieve my goal for writing for television (and get my novels published) but in the meantime I'll continue to write about those TV shows I love!
