10 Failed Alternatives To Upcoming Comic Book Movies
4. David S Goyer's The Flash
Upcoming Film: The Flash. Director: TBC (2018) Alternative Film: The Flash. Director: David S Goyer Like Aquaman and Wonder Woman, The Flash is getting the big screen treatment as part of DC's shared cinematic universe. Rather oddly, the films will have no connection to the very successful TV shows Arrow and The Flash, with Ezra Miller taking on the role of Barry Allen instead of Grant Gustin. The Flash has gone through a number of planned incarnations on screen, with John Wesley Shipp playing the character in the 90's TV show. But he almost made it to the big screen too, with David Goyer stepping in to write and direct. After directing him in Blade Trinity, Goyer wanted Ryan Reynolds for the role, initially as Wally West and then Barry Allen as the script developed. Citing The Flash as his favourite superhero, Goyer finished the screenplay and submitted to Warner Bros. Despite being 'very expensive to make' little is known about the plot. Unfortunately Warner Bros didn't like his vision for the film and the project was eventually abandoned. Reynolds went on to play Hal Jordan instead in the critically mauled Green Lantern, but looks set to redeem himself - hopefully - in Deadpool next year.
A writer for Whatculture since May 2013, I also write for TheRichest.com and am the TV editor and writer for Thedigitalfix.com . I wrote two plays for the Greater Manchester Horror Fringe in 2013, the first an adaption of Simon Clark's 'Swallowing A Dirty Seed' and my own original sci-fi horror play 'Centurion', which had an 8/10* review from Starburst magazine! (http://www.starburstmagazine.com/reviews/eventsupcoming-genre-events/6960-event-review-centurion) I also wrote an episode for online comedy series Supermarket Matters in 2012. I aim to achieve my goal for writing for television (and get my novels published) but in the meantime I'll continue to write about those TV shows I love!
