10 Failed Movies That Should've Been TV Shows
6. Assassin's Creed
Justin Kurzel's Assassins Creed failed to break the video game movie curse, despite the usually-reliable Michael Fassbender acting as both producer and star alongside heavyweight thespians Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson and Charlotte Rampling.
The problem with most video game adaptations is that fans of the game aren't really interested in watching something happen onscreen that they can control for themselves at home, while others with no knowledge of the source material don't really care either. The Assassin's Creed video games may have sold over 100 million copies, but the movie was still a dud.
The mythology may have got increasingly convoluted, but if you stripped it back to basics you've got the perfect ingredients for a mix of sci-fi drama and historical actioner that could make for a gripping TV show.
Each episode could focus on a specific time period or it could follow one character per season through historical events, while the overarching story would follow present-day Desmond Miles attempting to uncover the sinister secrets of Abstergo Industries, set against the backdrop of a centuries-old war between the Brotherhood of Assassins and the Knights Templar.
